Connecting MiniControl involves several straightforward steps:

1. Ensure your iOS device and computer are connected to the same network; USB connection on iOS 10 is also supported.
2. Launch the MiniControl app.
3. Open Audio MIDI Setup located in Applications / Utilities.
4. Select the MIDI Window.
5. Create a new network session or use an existing one, then connect your device to this session—it's recommended to use separate sessions if multiple devices are in use.
6. In your DAW, configure a new Mackie HUI or Mackie Control device, selecting the appropriate MIDI ports configured in the previous step. It is advisable to avoid using "All Inputs" or "All Outputs" options where possible.

Additional notes to consider:

• If connecting multiple iOS devices as separate interfaces, set up individual network sessions and corresponding MIDI controllers.
• Disable multitasking gestures if controlling more than three faders simultaneously on an iPad is desired.
• The behavior and performance of protocols may vary across different DAWs due to their unique implementations of automation displays and control functionalities.
• If automatic protocol detection is slow or unreliable, it is recommended to manually select the protocol to prevent missing initial MIDI messages vital for proper operation.
